Preface
In today's world, where water is becoming an increasingly scarce and fluctuating resource, countries all over the world are facing an increasing challenge to develop sustainable solutions to ensure a constant flow of clean fresh water.
In recent years, Singapore has made its mark in the areas of water technology and water industry developments. With growing local and global emphasis on water and the water industry, we compiled the Water bibliography to provide interested library users as well as water industry players with resources on a range of topics pertaining to water. This bibliography also commemorates the signing of the MOU between NLB and PUB.
PUB is the national agency that manages and ensures the sustainability of Singapore's supply of fresh water. The Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) Waters programme is a long-term initiative by PUB to transform Singapore's water bodies. It hopes to bring people closer to water so that they can better appreciate and treasure this precious resource. Drains, canals, reservoirs will be transformed into beautiful and clean streams, rivers and lakes for recreational purposes and water activities.
One of the key projects of the ABC Waters Programme is the Marina Barrage Project, a marvel of engineering and architecture that will become the 15th and the largest water-catchment in Singapore.
The resources in the bibliography are categorised according to the themes of "Active", "Beautiful" and "Clean". It covers information on the ABC Waters Programme as well as topics ranging from water usage and conservation, water sports, water activities to waterscape design in an urban environment and water treatment methods.
I wish to commend the staff for compiling this bibliography. We hope that this bibliography will serve as a good reference source on water-related topics. Through the partnership with PUB, we hope to further develop our collections and contents to serve the needs of water industry players, urban planners, teachers and students and anyone else interested in the water and water technology.
