Introduction
David Lim Kim San (b. 7 May 1933, Singapore - ), Executive Director of the Young Musicians’ Society (YMS), is a strong advocate for music education. He spearheaded the school band and choral movements in the 1960s and developed the music curriculum for the Ministry of Education (MOE). For two decades from 1964, Lim was notably significant for his role as conductor of the Singapore Youth Choir (SYC). He led the choir to its momentous victory at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales in 1974, winning the first prize in the youth category. Lim held a diverse portfolio throughout his career, including that of educator, administrator, producer of musicals, vocalist, and conductor of mass choirs, amongst other things. Lim was conferred the Cultural Medallion in 1979 for his distinguished contributions to the nation.
