Preface

Urban populations are growing inexorably. The increasing demand on natural resources has caused many to consider the long-term impact on the environment. With heightened environmental awareness, a range of sustainable solutions is being created in preparation of this growth. Many cities are successfully shifting the balance towards a healthier, vibrant and liveable urban future. As the saying goes, "If cities create environmental problems, they also contain the solutions."

This bibliography attempts to look at broad aspects of sustainability and environmental challenges in urban areas, with a special focus on water and the environment in the city, clean water, water quality and technology solutions and the business of water. It covers a range of resources including books, journal articles (from databases), websites, web articles and patents.

We hope that the resources presented in this bibliography can serve as a good reference source for urban planners, water industry players, teachers and students and anyone else interested on the subject.

I commend the working team for compiling this bibliography.
