Preface

Rapid economic development, urbanisation and consumerism has led to soaring demand for energy. Leaders, businessmen and scientists are coming to grips with energy provision against the backdrop of climate change and the increasing scarcity of fossil fuels. The energy challenge has become a more pressing issue than ever.

As we embrace the future, we recognise the need for clean, economical and preferably sustainable sources of energy. We are seeing today greater attention on energy efficient urban planning and innovations in the utilities industry for environmental sustainability. Improving eco-efficiency has also become an important strategy for sustainable development and creating quality of life within cities and communities.

This bibliography attempts to look at the many issues of energy resources and sustainable development in the cities. There are special focuses on energy technology in shaping our future cities, energy economics and energy efficiency. It covers a range of resources including books, journal articles (from databases), websites, web articles and patens.

I wish to commend the working team for compiling this bibliography. We hope that the resources presented in this bibliography can serve as a good reference source for urban planners, energy and power industry players, engineers, government officials, students and anyone else interested in this important subject.
