Introduction

Art and music have always had a close connection of cross-influence. Expressionist painters such as Kandinsky and Klee had a deep appreciation of the power of music, as a form of expression able to evoke an instinctive emotional response. In the contemporary art scene, the borders between visual and sound art are blurring. With the growing popularity of installation, multimedia and digital art works, the two can exist together to create a multi-sensory experience. This resource guide is to help you to source for information on the influence of music on contemporary art and the integration of music and sound art with various visual art forms today. Materials listed are available at National Library Board libraries as well as on the Internet.
